Being a worker in a warehouse for a long time, I have used a lot of inventory machine and want to share the experience of using them, hoping that is useful to you guys. Firstly, I want to introduce the types of inventory machine. There are three kinds of inventory machine in all, gun-style, portable-style and fixed-style.

I used the barcode scanner of Symbol at first, it was LS1203, and it can be used to scan 1D barcode. The warehouse I worked in is not very big, so it is enough for me to scan stuff in the whole warehouse. Symbol is a famous and import brand, the scanner of this brand is quite expensive, about the double price higher than that made in China. But it never cause quality problems, so it is still deserve to be recommended.

Then, the company I worked for was expanded, the warehouse becomes bigger than before. There were more stuff for me to check, so use the barcode scanner with wire bothered me a lot. So I reflected that problem to my leader, after he adopted my suggestion, he gave me a wireless barcode adapter, it is Sumlung BA10. That is quite practical and cost not very much. I was so surprised hearing that Sumlung is the first company to create wireless barcode adapter, I thought it  was a abroad brand at first! It is easy for me to inventory stuff within about 10m. The most important is there is no need to buy another wireless barcode scanner, and we can save money for company.

After a long time, the company become more complex, and they hired another administer to help us checking products in the end of the year. In that situation, they had to buy another wireless barcode scanner. Fortunately, the new one is very clever, and a good idea occurred to him.He usually used intelligent mobile phone, set by windows system. He knew the wireless scanner made by Sumlung can transport the data to intelligent mobile phone. It is enough for us to administrate the information with Excel. So we were about to buy the barcode scanner adapter of Sumlung at first, and added it on barcode scanner with wire. When we purchased the scanner adapter, the clerk told us Sumlung had invented a new kind of mobile phone barcode scanner, which contained the same function as the wireless scanner before, and it can be just covered on the mobile phone. So we don’t need to hold a barcode scanner on one hand and hold a mobile phone on the other one.

Eventually, we adopt the idea of buying the MS30 for our company, its price is a little more than 1000 yuan, and it is quite practical, too. So I personally recommend MS30, if you have a intelligent mobile phone, it is the best choice!

The use of barcode scanners in businesses continues to grow every day as new applications are invented and barcode scanner costs decline.  In the past, corded barcode scanners were the most common type of barcode scanner used but now cordless barcode scanners are becoming more and more common.  These cordless bar code scanners were primarily used in industrial and logistics applications, but they are starting to become more common in retail, healthcare, and other general business applications.

Some of the primary reasons for this growth in cordless barcode scanner usage include increased reliability, mobility, and safety. While most people think that a corded barcode scanner is more reliable than a cordless barcode scanning, the opposite can be true as we have found that the cable in a barcode scanner is typically the highest point of failure in a barcode scanner.  Obviously, eliminating the cable in the barcode scanner eliminates this point of failure.  Mobility is another important driver in the growth of cordless scanners; this is especially true in manufacturing areas where an operator may have to move around pieces of equipment to scan an item.  The cable from a corded barcode scanner can be both restrictive and hazardous to the worker.  Similarly, an office worker may find that they have to continuously untangle a cable as they walk around to scan items.  These long cables not only cause reductions in productivity but are also a major safety risk as they can be tangled up or wrapped around other pieces of equipment. Worse, they can be the source of industrial accidents when workers are tripped by the cable.

Some of the key criteria in choosing a cordless barcode solution include reliability of the cordless connection, bi-directionality of the communication and the radio range.  In the past, these could vary significantly depending on the technology involved.  However, today we believe that Bluetooth is becoming the most common cordless technology for these barcode scanners and the most common connection has become USB which essentially gives you a plug-and-play capability to your host PC.  It is worth noting that there are also some excellent cordless barcode scanners that utilize proprietary communications technology such as that used by the Datalogic STAR cordless system which uses radios based on both 433 and 910 MHz frequencies.  In any case, we expect that Bluetooth will be the dominate form and as its use and standards expand, so will the capability of the cordless barcode scanners.  Cordless barcode scanners are also starting to adopt RFID technologies.

While there is still a significant cost difference between corded barcode scanners and cordless barcode scanners, we expect that the use of cordless barcode scanners will increase because of its many benefits.  More than likely, the cordless bar code scanners will always have a premium over their corded barcode scanner counterpart, but the difference will shrink over time and the benefits will outweigh the additional cost.

I have an older Symbol Spark LS 1006 barcode scanner i want to use with a dell optiplex 755 computer. i don’t have any software or other documentation to accompany this scanner. i am using a usb converter and hope that isn’t the problem. in another barcode manual it has a series of barcodes to scan, but i don’t think this is working for mine. any help would be useful.
I have also already searched online. I found nothing! and my job is as a researcher, so I am pretty good at finding stuff on the internet. I don’t have a lot of time to put into the search though.

Multi-Property, Multi-Brand Hotel Owner Using TTI’s Scan2PMS to Protect Assets
Although there are no laws in the United States (as in other parts of the world) requiring hotel owners to copy guests’ personal identification at check in, it hasn’t kept Ritesh Shah, owner of the Days Inn Morrow, Country Inn and Suites Fairburn, and Holiday Inn Express and Suites, Lavonia in Georgia from doing just that. In April, the multi-property, multi-brand hotel owner partnered with TTI …

Cordless scanners are being used along with POS system and computers on a regular basis. We can normally see it as we pay our items in the grocery stores or pay the bills in communication companies. As a customer one of the not so favorite part of the shopping experience is the grueling part of falling in line. It would be a great idea if the process won’t be that long. Make it a hassle free and worthwhile experience for both customer and employee.

Reducing errors by getting the barcode correctly will make each shopping experience fun for the store much more with the consumers or payers. If you happen to be recording barcodes into the system before you release them to the market. Through this scanner you can already punch the product being bought then it will automatically be recorded into the computer.

Using this type of technology can be answers to workplaces where there are wholesale transactions are being made. Consider that there already plug and play scanners, which will record much more data needed in bulk orders. With cordless scanning it will locate and register even the items placed in a pile of products. Rest assured capture each barcode into the system near or far.

With its flexibility where ruggedness is much appreciated, it can withstand the environment where it is being used. Likely in ports under the heat of the sun or even during a winter condition, where trucks and tons of imported and exported products were being loaded. A heavy duty type of scanner is required to register all the ingoing and outgoing information.

We can all benefit from the time and effort that we spend during buying our needs. In this fast paced life, everybody is seems to be in a hurry. The sooner that you finish a task, the better, and the more productive people are. Just like a ripple effect, if the other one is doing fine then the next transaction will also do well. In farther way Cordless scanners help both small and medium companies increase sale and profit.

What are barcode fonts? Basically they are just that – plain fonts. But rather than depicting numbers and letters they contain the bars and spaces that make up a barcode symbology. They are installed to your fonts folder or directory and will show up in your application’s font list just like “Courier” or “Arial”.

“That sounds good! So basically I just enter a couple of digits in Word, add the start / stop characters, change the font to Code UPC and have a nice barcode.”, you say.

Not quite. You see, this approach will only work for simple barcodes like Code 39 where every group of bars and spaces (also called a symbol) is directly mapped to the character encoded.

Some Conversion Required

However, more complex symbologies like UPC or EAN require one more step to perform before the code can actually be displayed. The number to be encoded has to be “converted” to be usable with a given font. This is usually done with a little software tool that comes with the fonts. Also a checksum or check digit has to be calculated.

The use of such a conversion tool is acceptable if you have to print only a handful of codes. But what if you have to print scores of UPC codes? Hopefully you are not supposed to manually convert all those numbers! Fortunately, most conversion tools provide a batch conversion of numbers. Many vendors will also supply macros, DLL’s and sample code snippets to be used, say, in Visual Basic, that handle the conversion.

Now that we’ve learned the basics of barcode fonts, what are their pros and cons?

Advantages of Barcode Fonts

1. Barcode fonts will work in almost any application that works with text: Word processors, spreadsheets, databases, image editing, DTP software, most programming environments etc.

2. Depending on the barcode type involved it’s sufficient to simply enter the number and change the font.

3. Barcode fonts will scale and print very well because, unlike images or bitmaps, they are not pixel based.

4. Barcode fonts are available for almost any platform: Linux, Mac, Windows.

5. Barcode fonts are usually the cheapest barcode software available. If you only need Code UPC, you only have to buy a Code UPC font (many vendors will actually provide a collection of fonts for the reasons detailed below). This will usually cost no more that USD 30 to USD 50.

Drawbacks of Barcode Fonts

1. Some symbologies require a conversion before formatting.

2. Scaling a font will scale it in all directions. E.g. it’s usually not possible to make the barcode higher while keeping the width unchanged. Generally speaking, fonts are not very flexible. Most vendors therefore supply fonts with different ratios and sizes.

3. The same goes for the human readable text of the barcode. What if you need the Code UPC above without text? You could either cover the text with another object or hope that the vendor supplies a font with the bars only.

4. Barcode fonts are basically an “Add-On” to another software. This means you are stuck with the capabilities of the software in question when it comes, for example, to label printing.
