Being a worker in a warehouse for a long time, I have used a lot of inventory machine and want to share the experience of using them, hoping that is useful to you guys. Firstly, I want to introduce the types of inventory machine. There are three kinds of inventory machine in all, gun-style, portable-style and fixed-style.

I used the barcode scanner of Symbol at first, it was LS1203, and it can be used to scan 1D barcode. The warehouse I worked in is not very big, so it is enough for me to scan stuff in the whole warehouse. Symbol is a famous and import brand, the scanner of this brand is quite expensive, about the double price higher than that made in China. But it never cause quality problems, so it is still deserve to be recommended.

Then, the company I worked for was expanded, the warehouse becomes bigger than before. There were more stuff for me to check, so use the barcode scanner with wire bothered me a lot. So I reflected that problem to my leader, after he adopted my suggestion, he gave me a wireless barcode adapter, it is Sumlung BA10. That is quite practical and cost not very much. I was so surprised hearing that Sumlung is the first company to create wireless barcode adapter, I thought it  was a abroad brand at first! It is easy for me to inventory stuff within about 10m. The most important is there is no need to buy another wireless barcode scanner, and we can save money for company.

After a long time, the company become more complex, and they hired another administer to help us checking products in the end of the year. In that situation, they had to buy another wireless barcode scanner. Fortunately, the new one is very clever, and a good idea occurred to him.He usually used intelligent mobile phone, set by windows system. He knew the wireless scanner made by Sumlung can transport the data to intelligent mobile phone. It is enough for us to administrate the information with Excel. So we were about to buy the barcode scanner adapter of Sumlung at first, and added it on barcode scanner with wire. When we purchased the scanner adapter, the clerk told us Sumlung had invented a new kind of mobile phone barcode scanner, which contained the same function as the wireless scanner before, and it can be just covered on the mobile phone. So we don’t need to hold a barcode scanner on one hand and hold a mobile phone on the other one.

Eventually, we adopt the idea of buying the MS30 for our company, its price is a little more than 1000 yuan, and it is quite practical, too. So I personally recommend MS30, if you have a intelligent mobile phone, it is the best choice!

If you are small or mid-size business, Supply Chain Management extensions to your Corporate ERP application might be very difficult to find, or find software programmer to customize.  We heard the stories, where brand name external Warehouse Management System implementation went into limbo and finally failed.  Well, there are reasons and excuses, as SCM theory is very practical and each company Supply Chain Management business processes might deviate from the streamline.  In our case, we are trying to eliminate redundant complexities from WMS implementation for such ERP and MRP applications as Microsoft Dynamics GP (formerly known as Great Plains Dynamics, eEnterprise, Great Plains Accounting for DOS, Windows or Mac), SAP Business One – being on Corporate ERP midmarket
1. Supply Chain Management concept.  It includes such sub concepts as Warehouse Management, eCommerce, and all the flavors of SCM optimizations: delivery trucks, consignments, just in time, picking and packing, shipping and receiving, light manufacturing and assembly, order fulfillment and allocation, and others
2. Classical Barcoding. Barcode scanning is crucial for SCM and WMS extensions for your Corporate ERP application.  The inventions of Barcode fonts launched the revolution in the Supply Chain Management.  Even in your private life, being retail shopper – if you prefer self checkout, your should scan your purchased items one-by-one at the self checkout counter and you probably are happy to have things done automatically without human intervention.  In the case of Microsoft Dynamics GP barcoding requires add-ons and probably some custom programming, as you have to enable GP forms for Barcode scanner integration.  Classical barcoding was based on the assumption that you can use barcode scanner as the replacement for the computer keyboard.  This was very true for the first barcode scanners, but as the time went, barcode devices improved and turned to be more complex and sophisticated
3. Modern Barcode Scanners.  Here you have the options to run WMS client on the screen of your Barcode Scanner (Symbol, or another brand).  Barcode scanner has the options of generic computing and such concepts as ODBC, SQL Client, eConnect (integration SDK for Dynamics GP).  Plus there is the option to upload scanned data in the so called batch mode, where your truck driver scans merchandize transfer documents being on the route
4. Picking and Packing.  In these scenarios you may expect barcode scanning for such item attributes as Serial and lot numbers
5. E-commerce shopping Cart integration with Dynamics GP WMS and SCM.  There is no need to implement in Great Plains such features as Credit Card Payment, Shopping Cart Checkout, shopping card based pricelist.  If you already invested into such ecommerce shopping carts as Magento, please consider our eCommerce module for Dynamics GP, which is integrated seamlessly with custom e-commerce
6. Dynamics GP SCM internationally.  Here is the important concept ERP localization.  Accounting application should be compliant to the targeted country tax legislation as well as supporting local language in its interfaces.  International business is tough and often requires special education or experience.  Each country is different in its tax legislation, and you should check if your proposed ERP system is localized on the Corporate ERP market of the targeted coutry
7. Local Language Support.  Dynamics GP is available in English speaking countries, plus in genuine Latin America (not available in Brazil, as Brazil speaks in Portuguese dialect), Arabic speaking countries in Arabic peninsula, Northern Africa.  Dynamics GP interface could be translated on the week in advance requirement for Afghanistan (Dari, Tajik or Pashtun), Pakistan (Urdu)
8. How to request help?  Please call us 1-866-528-0577, 1-630-961-5918 or email us help@albapsectrum.com  We speak English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Filipino, Russian

Barcode scanner is a commonly used electronic device that reads printed barcodes. Also known as Point of sale scanner, it is widely used in areas where large number of goods or stock is involved, like in warehouses, library, supermarkets etc.

Barcodes are assigned on product labels usually to automate the process of sale or transaction. Each barcode has specific symbols defined as a series of bars.  A barcode scanner’s photo sensors can capture this coded data on barcodes and translate it into electronic pluses. This data when sent to a computer is then decoded into readable text using a special software application. The entire process happens very quickly and takes only a few milliseconds.

The main idea behind use of barcodes on product has been to track inventory and pricing of the product in a simplified and more efficient way. Use of barcode scanners makes the task of reading information on products 10 times faster than a person entering information by hand. This also means lesser room for human error. Being simple to use, barcode scanners are fast gaining popularity in different areas of life.

There are many types of bar code scanners available today in market and its selection depends on the type of industry and work environment it is used for. The most popular ones are hand held and hands free barcode scanners.

Hand held barcode scanners are often used like a pen where the operator swipes the scanner over the code to read it. This type of bar code scanner is cheaper and durable but needs to be used in a certain angle and swiped at a certain speed to ensure correct reading.  It’s ideal for retail, hospital, education or offices.

Hands free bar scanners are wireless models. They are mostly used for industrial purposes like in large warehouses. Since hands free bar scanners allow more freedom of movement, it ensures more efficiency.

Being an extremely efficient, cost effective alternative to manual task, barcode scanners are beneficial for both the company and its customers.

Wholesale retailers go through thousands of products a year. Much of the merchandise is shipped in bulk, for the wholesale company to wade and sift through prior to resale. Inventory control is a huge issue for processing wholesale merchandise quickly and appropriately to maintain profit. What options are out there for wholesale inventory control to improve speed while reducing oversights?

Manual Systems. Old-fashioned manual inventory systems are still used by smaller warehouses. This system can be helpful if your company is a wholesale outlet of large, big-ticket items, meaning you have a smaller quantity of each product on hand. Even inventory systems based on hand counts, and packing sheets, are usually entered into a computer database. Problems with this system arise in the extraordinary amounts of time required for upkeep, and tracing any errors could be difficult.

Barcode Systems. Affordable inventory systems employing infrared scanners and printable barcodes are available for small to medium sized wholesale retailers. The cheapest systems usually run between $500-$1000 and include software and one scanner. Additional scanners will cost more, but make sense if multiple workers will be involved with processing shipments. One downside is barcodes are best made with a laser printer, which is more expensive to maintain than a standard ink jet printer. Also, barcodes are easily damaged from moisture or improper handling, causing headaches when it’s time to ship the product to the customer.

RFID Systems. Radio frequency identification systems use integrated circuitry on tags to encode information about an item. An antenna or reader then decodes the information as the product passes within range, and the information is transferred to a computer for processing. This is the best system for a large wholesale retailer because the tags are more robust than barcode stickers, and can be completely hands free. Plus, the storage capacity of RFID tags is greater than the information capacity of a barcode. Mounted antennas or readers at doorways can even eliminate the need for a worker to scan the item– the information will be read as soon as it moves through the door.

Inventory control is imperative for a wholesale company. Details such as quantity, condition, and length of storage time are all crucial factors for customers. Most wholesale retailers sell through a website or catalog. Simply finding an ordered item in a large warehouse can be difficult, if there isn’t a computer system in place to quickly identify the designated storage location. Computerized inventory systems also eliminate any mistakes from workers incorrectly pulling an item similar in name to what is ordered, but not in price. Before investing in any large scale inventory control system, be sure the benefits and up keep costs defray the total cost of initial start up. Then, simply sit back, and let the computers track your assets for you.

All things considered, inventory control is a very important aspect that must be taken into consideration by merchandise owners because they need to avoid situations like the lack of some products that buyers demand or the reverse situation, the surplus of products that nobody wants to purchase.

Are you a retailer? If you are in the business of operating a profitable retail store, such as a supermarket or a department store, no matter how large or small your establishment is, you are. When it comes to running a retail store or even a chain of them, many retailers look for ways to decrease costs, but increase profits. If you are one of those retailers, you likely already use POS products in your stores, but did you know that you could also be doing more?

Before examining the additional products that can be used in conjunction with POS products, it is first important to examine what POS products are. POS products are pieces of equipment that are used in retail settings to assist with the sale of a customer. At the same time, many POS products also help to keep inventory counts. For instance, if a customer were to buy a comforter set, that comforter set, once scanned at the register, would automatically be deducted from the on hand comforter set inventory count. When the on hand count gets low enough, your stores could reorder more comforter sets or they may even be sent to your store automatically, depending on how your orders are processed and received.

If you are like many retail chains, particularly those who use POS products, including POS cash registers, there is a good chance that your store orders are automatically generated. POS products can be networked together, between different stores, corporate offices, as well as distribution centers. This networking is what makes many POS products, including POS cash registers, work to their fullest potential. When a POS product is working to the best of its ability, it lessens the amount of work that you and your employees have to do, saving you time and money.

Despite the possibility to automatically generate orders for your stores, there are some POS products, including POS cash registers, which need assistance. If you have been in the retail industry for long, you already know that cashier errors and shoplifting are frowned upon, but common. Unfortunately, that part of the business may be disrupting your inventory counts generated by a POS cash register barcode scanner. To eliminate errors and keep an accurate count of inventory, you will want to look into to purchasing other equipment; equipment that can supplement POS products, including POS cash registers. One piece of equipment that you may want to look into outfitting your stores with is referred to as an inventory collection device.

Inventory collection devices come in a number of different makes and models; however, they are most commonly handheld machines. These handheld machines, installed with the correct software, can assist you with keeping an accurate inventory count. This can be done a number of different ways. For instance, if a number of retail stores or retail stores chains are involved, someone from headquarters could initiate a mandatory on hand inventory account. Often times, when this is done, a specific number of items, in a specific department, are counted, but other times, stores are given the freedom to randomly count a number of products; any products that they choose. Inventory collection devices and on hand inventory counts will help to ensure that your stores are fully stocked with the appropriate amount of merchandise.

Inventory collection devices, when paired with other POS products, like POS cash registers; give the option to retain the largest profits possible. For instance, if too little inventory is in your stores, your customers may be unable to find what they need in stock and turn to one of your competitors. Should too much inventory be in your stores, it makes your business a prime target for those with poor intentions; intentions that include shoplifting. In this aspect, inventory control devices can cut down on your loses; thus, generating additional profits. Many established retailers, like you, find that their inventory control devices, as well as all of the POS products, pay for themselves in as little as a few weeks.

If you are interested in examining the large number of inventory collection devices currently available for sale, visit VisionPOS.com. If you are also interested in updating or replacing your POS products, including POS cash registers, VisionPOS.com has everything that you need to keep your business running strong, but smoothly.
